Region 19 Champions

Season Recap

The 2006-07 will remembered as the year Harcum College established itself as one the elite junior college basketball programs in the country. In just its second season of intercollegiate competition, Harcum posted a 30-3 overall record, a 13-1 region record, and captured the Region 19 tournament championship. The Bears won a school record 21 consecutive games during the season, and captured the championship of the Cecil Community College Juco Holiday Classic in late December. Harcum finished the season ranked third nationally in the final NJCAA Division II men’s basketball poll.

Harcum used its up tempo offense and pressure defense to average over 95 points per game, despite the fact the no individual player averaged over 16 points per game. Harcum was led in scoring by the Region 19 Player of the Year Ryan Bogan, who averaged 15.4 points per game. Bogan, who signed a Letter of Intent with NCAA Division I Longwood University before the season, finished his career with a school record 1,108 points. He will also leave Harcum as the all-time leader in assists, steals, and three point field goals.

Joining Bogan on the All Region 19 First-Team was his backcourt partner Jamal Jackson. Jackson, a freshman point guard, averaged 14.8 points per game while shooting 55% from the field and 82% from the foul line. Sophomore Tariek Belcher was selected to the All Region 19 Second-Team for the second consecutive season. Belcher, who will play at Division II Shippensburg University next season, averaged 12.4 points per game and led the team in rebounding. He leaves Harcum as the all-time leader in rebounds and blocked shots, while totaling over 850 career points.

Freshman forward Daziah Miller also finished with a double figure scoring average with 10.3 points per game. Miller came on strong during the second half of the season, averaging over 15 points per game during the final 15 games. Sophomores Matt Furey and Augustine Okosun also made big contributions for the Bears. Furey ended has career with over 150 three point field goals and averaged 9.1 points per game this season. Okosun, a 6’10" center, averaged 6.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game while leading the team in blocked shots. Okosun will play next season at Seton Hall University.

This season’s sophomore class finishes their careers with a long list of accomplishments. From starting the program in 2005 to leading it to its first-ever Region 19 championship in 2007, Harcum’s Class of 2007 finished their career with a amazing 51-13 overall record. All seven sophomores will continue their basketball careers at four-year colleges.
