Bogan, Jackson, Belcher Earn All-Region Honors

men’s basketball student-athletes Ryan Bogan, Jamal Jackson and Tariek Belcher have been recognized for their outstanding seasons by being named to the NJCAA All-Region 19 men’s basketball team.
Bogan, a 6’2” sophomore shooting guard, earned the Region’s top honor by being named the Region 19 Player of the Year. It was the second consecutive first-team selection for Bogan, who closed out his stellar two-year career at Harcum with a school record 1,108 career points. Bogan signed a letter of intent with Division I Longwood University before the season.
Joining Bogan on the All-Region first team was his backcourt partner Jamal Jackson. Jackson, a 6’0” freshman, enjoyed a standout rookie campaign, averaging 14.8 ppg while shooting 55% from the field and 81% from the foul line. He also boasted a nearly 4 to 1 assist/turnover ratio.
Tariek Belcher, a 6’7” sophomore, was named to the All-Region 19 second team for the second consecutive season. Belcher finished his career at Harcum with over 850 career points and is the school’s all-time leader in rebounds and blocked shots. Belcher will attend Division II Shippensburg University next fall.
Together, Bogan, Jackson, and Belcher paced one of the most high powered offense’s in the nation, averaging over 96 points per game. The Bears finished the 2006-07 season with a 30-3 overall record and captured the school’s first-ever Region 19 championship in men’s basketball.

Harcum Men’s Basketball Moves up to #3 Spot in National Polls
BRYN MAWR, PA (January 24, 2007) – The Harcum men’s basketball team continued its climb up the national polls, landing at the number three spot nationally as ranked by the National Junior College Athletic Association polls. Harcum, a two-year college, competes in Division II, Region XIX of the NJCAA.
The "Bears" were ranked number six in last week’s NJCAA poll.
Only two teams – Cecil County Community College (14 – 2/North East, MD) and Grand Rapids Community College (16 – 0/Grand Rapids, MI) are ranked ahead of the Bears, who are 19 – 1 overall and undefeated in Region XIX. Harcum did not play Grand Rapids, but the Bears defeated Cecil, 92 – 85, on December 22.
"It’s definitely an honor to be recognized by the NJCAA," said Drew Kelly, Athletic Director and head men’s basketball coach at Harcum College. "Right now, though our focus is on winning games one at a time. We’re trying hard not to think about where we are ranked."
Harcum defeated Gloucester County College last night by a 90 - 67 margin. Diziah Miller (Philadelphia/Bartram High School) scored 17 points in the win. Tariek Belcher (Philadelphia/Mastbaum High) added 16 points.
The Harcum Bears are led by second-year player Ryan Bogan (Oxford, PA/Oxford High School), who is averaging 16 points per game. Other scoring leaders include Jamal Jackson (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg High School) at 15 points per game, and Belcher who is scoring 14 points per game.
The Bears boast two future NCAA Division I players – Bogan, who is bound for Longwood University in Virginia, and Center Austin Okosun (Benin City, Nigeria) who will play for the Seton Hall Pirates next year.

BRYN MAWR, PA (January 18, 2007) – The Harcum men’s basketball team climbed further up the national polls this week, landing at the number six spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association polls. Harcum, a two-year college, competes in Division II, Region XIX of the NJCAA.
This week’s rankings came out after Harcum defeated the previous number six team, Mercer County College (Trenton, NJ), by a score of 76 – 49 on January 9. The team, which has a record of 17 – 1 so far this season, also defeated the number four team, Monroe Community College (Rochester, NY) by a score of 87 – 70 on December 23, 2006; and defeated the number three team, Cecil County College (North East, MD) by a score of 92 – 85 on December 22.

Men’s, Women’s Basketball Continues on a Big Roll
BRYN MAWR, PA (January 5, 2007) – The Harcum College men’s and women’s basketball teams enter the thick of their 2006 – 2007 seasons sitting at or near the top of their respective Regions.
The "Lady Bears" are now 10 – 1 after their 87 – 69 at home victory over visiting Salem County College last night. They now enter a string of home games, beginning with a January 9 contest against Mercer County Community College.
The men’s team emerged victorious from a Holiday Tournament at host Cecil (MD) County Community College in North East, MD. The Bears defeated two teams in that tournament that are consistently ranked at or near the top of the nationwide polls by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
On December 22 the men defeated Number 4 ranked Cecil County Community College, 95 – 82. The next day they downed Monroe Community College (Rochester, NY), the number 3 team in the nation, by a score of 87 – 70. Freshman Jamal Jackson (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg High School) scored 20 points in the win.
The men’s team continued winning last night, taking the opener of the men’s/women’s doubleheader against visiting Salem County College by a score of 125 – 73, giving them a record of 15 – 1 on the season. The game marked the men’s 13th consecutive victory and was the first time in the men’s program’s two-year history that the team scored 125 points in a game.

Bears Play Well, Fall Short in Tip-Off Tournament
BEL AIR, MD (November 20, 2006) - The Harcum College men's basketball team went 1 - 1 in a season-opening tournament here this past weekend, playing well in both games, but falling short by two points in the championship contest.
Harcum began the Harford County College Tip-Off tournament on Friday, Nov. 17, with an impressive 87 - 57 win over erie Community College (Buffalo, NY). The "Bears" opened the game with an astonishing 22 - 0 run, holding Erie scoreless for nearly the first 10 minutes of play. Sophomore Ryan Bogan (Oxford, PA/Oxford High School) led all Harcum scorers with 18 points. Freshman Jamal Jackson (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg High School) scored 10 in the victory. Erie is a perennially top-ranked school in polls conducted by the National Junior College Athletic Assocaition.
The Bears fell short in the championship game on Saturday, falling to Harford County College by two points, 78 - 76.
The Harcum men's and women's basketball teams will play a double header tomorrow, Novembwer 21, at home beginnin gat 6 p.m. versus Chesapeake County College.

Harcum Places Athletes on NJCAA Men's and Women's All American Hoops Squads
BRYN MAWR, PA (Nov. 9, 2006) - Two athletes from the men's and women's basketball programs at Harcum College have been named to preseason "All American" teams by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Guard Ryan Bogan (Oxford, PA/Oxford High School), a second-year player on the men's team, was named as a First Team All American by the NJCAA. Also, Forward Chantal Hardy (Philadelphia/Cardinal Dougherty High School) a second-year player on the women's team, was named a Second Team All American.
Harcum, a two-year, co-educational college in Bryn Mawr, PA, competes in Division II, Region XIX of the NJCAA.
This is the second such honor for Bogan, who was named to the All-Region XIX team by the NJCAA at the conclusion of the 2005 - 2006 men's basketball season.
The six-foot-two-inch Bogan last season averaged 19.7 points per ganme, 6.9 rebounds per game, and led the team in both assists (137) and steals (79). Bogan led the Region with 74 three-point field goals while shooting 39 percent from three-point range. He recently signed on to play for NCAA Division I Longwood University for the 2007 - 2008 season.
Hardy, at five-feet seven-inches, averaged 17.7 poitns per game last year, and contributed with 5.3 rebounds per contest. She shot 47 percent from the field, and 36 percent from three-point range. She was a key member of a women's squad that went 26 - 5 and won the Region XIX Championship during the 2005 - 2006 season.

Harcum Colleges Announces Men's Basketball Schedule for 2006 - 2007

BRYN MAWR, PA (August 30, 2006) - Taking the next step to build upon its inaugural success, Harcum today announced its 30-game men's basketball schedule for the 2006 - 2007 campaign. The season tips off on November 14 when the "Bears" host Camden County College in the Klein Hall gym at 7 p.m.
Harcum fielded a men's intercollegiate basketball team for the first time in the school's 90-year history last year. That quad, comprising mostly freshmen, posted an impressive 21 - 10 record. Harcum competes in Division II, Region XIX of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Along with a slate of games against Region XIX opponents, the Bears will play a difficult non-region schedule that includes two in-season tournaments. The first takes place Nov. 17 - 18 in Bel Air, MD, where Harcum will play host Harford County College and Erie (NY) Community College. In another tournament, this from Dec. 22 - 23, the team travels to North East, MD to play Cecil Community College. This tourney also includes games against nationally-recognized powers Monroe (NY) Community College and Mott (MI) Community College.
Two more non-region games will take place Nov. 21 at home against Chesapeake (MD) College and a road game on Dec. 1 against the Community College of Philadelphia.
The Bears will also play a home and home contest agains their Region XIX, Division II rivals. A big contest for Harcum takes place Feb. 6 when they host defending Region XIX champ Lackawanna College at 8 p.m. Harcum also hosts last season's division III national runner-up, Gloucester County (NJ) College, on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. All home games are free and open to the public. Harcum Signs 6'11" Future Big East Player for Men's Basketball
BRYN MAWR, PA (August 29, 2006) - Austin Okosun, a six-foot, eleven-inch center, will play men's basketball for Harcum College's men's team, beginning this fall. The 240-pound okosun has already made a verbal commitment to play for Seton Hall University, an NCAA Division I "Big East" school, once his playing days at Harcum are finished.
Okosun is originally from Nigeria, and is relatively new to collegiate basketball. He averaged 2.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per game while playing basketball for Georgetown College - a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics school in Kentucky.
"We're very impressed with Austin's athleticism, commitment to the game of basketball, and willingness to be a part of our program," said Drew Kelly, Harcum's Athletic Director and Men's team was the first in the College's history, and posted an impressive 21 - 10 won/loss record. Harcum competes in Division II, Regiosn XIX of the National Junior College Athletic Assocaition.
