Harcum Volleyball 2008

Harcum College Welcomes Carrie Bourgo as Women’s Head Volleyball Coach BRYN MAWR, PA (Monday August 4, 2008) Harcum, a private two-year college in Bryn Mawr, has recently welcomed Carrie Bourgo, head coach of women’s volleyball, to its campus as the newest member of its staff.
Carrie, now residing in King of Prussia, came from Cincinnati, Ohio, where she was the assistant varsity volleyball coach and junior varsity volleyball coach at Cincinnati Christian High School. Mrs. Bourgo assisted the varsity team with eventual plans of leading the program before moving with her husband, a cancer research Ph.D. student, to Philadelphia for career pursuits at Thomas Jefferson University.
Mrs. Bourgo has vast experience as the camp counselor and coach at a considerable number of Volleyball camps, as the head coach for various volleyball clubs, and as the junior varsity coach for numerous high schools located in Cincinnati, Ohio, Notre Dame, Indiana and several cities in Michigan. Carrie Bourgo was a dedicated volleyball player for several years, including her participation in the varsity volleyball team as well as her position as camp counselor at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she earned her degree in Elementary Education with a minor concentration in Math, Spanish and Planned Elementary.
Mrs. Bourgo always had hopes of leading her own volleyball program and coaching at the college level, so when asked to join Harcum’s staff, she “jumped at the opportunity.” Bourgo is excited about the challenges of college level sports and delving into a rather crucial recruitment season.
“I want to connect with all my players, build relationships with other coaches, and create an identity for myself, for our team at Harcum, and in the community,” Bourgo said. Carrie Bourgo’s hopes for her participation in Harcum’s team undoubtedly reflect her ultimate goal as a coach: “I want to help others achieve greatness,” she said, “and as a coach I can reach my goal by helping my players reach their goals.”
Harcum’s women’s volleyball team has a keen record of persistence and hard work. Despite some injuries in the past, the “Lady Bears” have successfully intensified their recruitment process and have grown exponentially, not only as strong and resilient individuals, but also as a powerful team. Carrie Bourgo’s past success will surely preserve Harcum’s women’s volleyball team’s already remarkable ability to advance.
