Overview

Students who graduate with an associate degree in Psychology traditionally transfer to a four-year degree program in the same or related program of study. This associate degree is also intended to provide students an opportunity to attain the knowledge and skills necessary for potential employment in various agencies, institutions, and organizations and to widen opportunities for advancement of currently employed students.

Students who study psychology develop an understanding of behavior and the mind. Basically, psychology addresses questions of how humans (and, where relevant, animals) act, know, develop, and interact. Psychology is a diverse discipline with many varied career options. Individuals with degrees in psychology may find employment-based on their level of education-in business and industry, the mental health field, education, the helping professions, and in research. The option to work as an independent practitioner also exists. An associate degree is the first step to helping a student identify a specific interest in the field of psychology.
