2005 Season Summary
The 2005 Harcum Lady Bears re-entered intercollegiate Volleyball competition with players achieving national rankings and providing the groundwork for an even stronger team in the future.
Pre-season began last August with two-weeks of practices, where players sharpened and developed their skills for matches starting in September.
Five players started and finished this season: Amina Abdella (John Bartram High School, Philadelphia) Perketa Richardson (University City, Philadelphia) Heather Swearer (Oxford High, Oxford, PA) Jasmine Pinkins (University City, Philadelphia and Genevieve Harley (West Philadelphia). Kate Brown, (Mechanicsburg High, Mechanicsburg, PA) a 5'10" middle hitter, was unable to play this season, but will return to the team next year.
Two players, Heather Swearer and Amina Abdella, finished the season ranked number 5 and number 33 in the nation in Division II in Aces per Game. Jasmine Pinkins became a dominating middle hitter against other teams, beginning to successfully connect with setter Heather Swearer to become team leader in kills.
The Lady Bears finished the season with an overall record of 2-7. Several matches were cancelled during the season due to an injury Heather Swearer incurred at the Philadelphia Community College match. She was able to make a speedy recovery and did return to complete the season with the team.
The team has already begun recruiting for this coming season, and so far has been successful in attracting players from New Jersey to Lancaster County, PA.
