Library Policies
Circulation Policy
Library cards are available at the Circulation Desk. To obtain a Library card, you must have a valid Harcum College ID.
Books may be checked out for 3 weeks and may be renewed either in person or by phone. To renew books by phone, please call 610-526-6085 on or before the due date. Audiovisual (AV) materials may be checked out for 7 days.
Periodicals and Reserve materials may NOT be checked out and are limited to in-house use only. Reserve materials may be used in the Library for 2 hours.
The Library has available a photocopier and two network printers. Photocopies and printed pages are 10¢ per page.
The Library has 18 computers available for patron use. We permit use of Library computers for research, assigned software packages, email, and typing assignments/papers. We ask that you limit IM chat sessions and the use of streaming audio/video.
Faculty, students, and staff are welcome to access the Library’s electronic databases at home by requesting a password list that is available at the Circulation Desk.
Interlibrary Loan Policy (ILL)
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service providing current students, faculty, and staff with books and/or photocopies of journal articles that are unavailable in the Library. The form to submit an ILL request is available
online
and at the Circulation Desk.

AV Requests / SMART Classrooms
SMART classrooms have the following equipment:

Internet Connection
To request AV equipment, a Laptop, or a SMART key for your class/campus event, please fill out an AV/Laptop Request Form or submit your AV/Laptop request to the Media Services Assistant. We ask that you provide the Library with at least 3 days notice to prepare the AV equipment.
If other AV equipment is required for your class/event, please contact the Media Services Assistant for assistance.
Clickers - Audience Response System
The Library has acquired response clickers to promote and enhance interactive teaching and learning in the classroom. Clickers allow students/audience to respond quickly to questions asked by faculty and actively participate in class discussions. This technology serves as an effective way for faculty to assess accurately how students comprehend the course material.
If you would like to reserve the clickers for a particular class day and time, please fill out the AV/Laptop Request Form.
Information Literacy
The Library has many classes available for your students covering basic Library use to advanced database searching strategies.
Please contact the Reference Librarian to schedule an instruction session. We ask that you provide at least 1 week’s notice prior to the class date.
Reserve Materials
If you would like to place either Library materials or personal copies on Reserve, please fill out the Item Reserve Request Form. You can also submit your Reserve request to the Circulation Coordinator. To better assist you with your Reserve requests, please provide the Library with your syllabi for the given semester.
To check out Reserve materials, your students will need to present their Library card at the Circulation Desk. These materials can be checked out to students for 2 hours and may only be used in the Library.
If AV equipment is required for use of Reserve materials, please consult a Librarian for assistance.
New Title Recommendations Welcomed!
The Library welcomes recommendations from faculty and staff for titles to be added to the Library collection. Please fill out the New Title Request Form. You can also submit your recommendation to the Director of Library Services.
