Harcum Men’s Basketball Ranked 6th Nationally
Defeated two of the teams above them in the polls
BRYN MAWR, PA (January 18, 2007) – The Harcum men’s basketball team climbed further up the national polls this week, landing at the number six spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association polls. Harcum, a two-year college, competes in Division II, Region XIX of the NJCAA.
This week’s rankings came out after Harcum defeated the previous number six team, Mercer County College (Trenton, NJ), by a score of 76 – 49 on January 9. The team, which has a record of 17 – 1 so far this season, also defeated the number four team, Monroe Community College (Rochester, NY) by a score of 87 – 70 on December 23, 2006; and defeated the number three team, Cecil County College (North East, MD) by a score of 92 – 85 on December 22.
The Harcum "Bears" are led by second-year player Ryan Bogan (Oxford, PA/Oxford High School), who is averaging 16 points per game. Other scoring leaders include Jamal Jackson (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg High School) at 15 points per game, and Tariek Belcher (Philadelphia/Mastbaum High School) who is scoring 14 points per game.
The "Bears" boast two future NCAA Division I players – Bogan, who is bound for Longwood University in Virginia, and Center Austin Okosun (Benin City, Nigeria) who will play for the Seton Hall Pirates next year.
