Harcum's Bogan Commits to D-I School
Will Play for Longwood University in 2007 - 2008 Season
BRYN MAWR, PA - Guard Ryan Bogan (Oxford, PA/Oxford High) a second-year player on the Harcum College men's basketball team, has verbally committed to play for Longwood University, Farmville, VA, an emerging NCAA Division I program, for the 2007 - 2008 season.
Harcum, a two-year co-educational college in Bryn Mawr, competes in Division II, Region XIX of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
The six-foot, two-inch Bogan was a First Team All-Region XIX player last season after averaging 19.7 points per game, 6.9 rebounds per game, and leading the team in both assists (137) and steals (79). Bogan led the Region with 74 three-point field goals while shooting 39 percent from three-point range. This season he will be an integral part of a team that went 21 - 10 during the 2005 - 2006 season; the first season in which Harcum fielded a men's intercollegiate athletic team of any kind. It was Bogan who scored the first points in Harcum's men's basketball history - a free-throw versus the U.S. Naval Academy's Junior Varsity team on November 13, 2005.
Longwood University is a 4,300 student, public coeducational university with over 100 majors, minors, and concentrations in the arts and sciences, business, and education. Graduate programs are in business, education, English, sociology, and environmental studies. Its men's basketball program will play a 31-game schedule this fall, and is in the final year of a four-year NCAA Division I reclassification program. In Bogan's first year at Longwood, the University will be an "official" Division I school.
"Ryan has worked hard to accomplish his goal of becoming a Division I player," said Drew Kelly, Harcum's Athletic Director and men's basketball coach. "On the court and in the classroom, Ryan has been a leader for our basketball program. It's great to see his hard work pay off with a full scholarship to Longwood."
Bogan is the second Harcum men's player to commit to a Division I program. Last month center Austin Okosun made a verbal commitment to play for "Big East" powerhouse Seton Hall University in the 2007 - 2008 season.
Harcum's men's basketball team tips off its 2006 - 2007 season - with Bogan in uniform - on Tuesday, November 14 in a home contest versus Camden County College. Game time is 7 p.m.
