Harcum Men’s Basketball Moves up to #3 Spot in National Polls
BRYN MAWR, PA (January 24, 2007) – The Harcum men’s basketball team continued its climb up the national polls, landing at the number three spot nationally as ranked by the National Junior College Athletic Association polls. Harcum, a two-year college, competes in Division II, Region XIX of the NJCAA.
The "Bears" were ranked number six in last week’s NJCAA poll.
Only two teams – Cecil County Community College (14 – 2/North East, MD) and Grand Rapids Community College (16 – 0/Grand Rapids, MI) are ranked ahead of the Bears, who are 19 – 1 overall and undefeated in Region XIX. Harcum did not play Grand Rapids, but the Bears defeated Cecil, 92 – 85, on December 22.
"It’s definitely an honor to be recognized by the NJCAA," said Drew Kelly, Athletic Director and head men’s basketball coach at Harcum College. "Right now, though our focus is on winning games one at a time. We’re trying hard not to think about where we are ranked."
Harcum defeated Gloucester County College last night by a 90 - 67 margin. Diziah Miller (Philadelphia/Bartram High School) scored 17 points in the win. Tariek Belcher (Philadelphia/Mastbaum High) added 16 points.
The Harcum Bears are led by second-year player Ryan Bogan (Oxford, PA/Oxford High School), who is averaging 16 points per game. Other scoring leaders include Jamal Jackson (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg High School) at 15 points per game, and Belcher who is scoring 14 points per game.
The Bears boast two future NCAA Division I players – Bogan, who is bound for Longwood University in Virginia, and Center Austin Okosun (Benin City, Nigeria) who will play for the Seton Hall Pirates next year.
