Harcum Blasts Morris, Wins Regional Championship
RANDOLPH, NJ (March 3, 2007) – Second year guard Ryan Bogan (Oxford, PA/Oxford High School) scored 27 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead Harcum College to an 88 – 50 victory over the County College of Morris today on the way to the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division II, Region XIX Championship.
Bogan, who next year will play for NCAA Division I Longwood University in Virginia, gained the Tournament Most Valuable Player Award for his performance.
With the Region XIX Championship tucked away, Harcum now awaits the outcome of tomorrow’s NJCAA Division II, Region XXI game. The "Bears" will play the winner of that game on Saturday, March 10 for the District Championship and the right to travel to Danville, Illinois to play for the NJCAA Division II National Championship.
Today’s game was the first-ever Regional Championship for Harcum's men's team. Harcum, a two-year college in Bryn Mawr, PA that, up until the fall of 2005, did not have a men’s athletic program of any kind. The "Bears" went 21 – 10 in their inaugural 2005 – 2006 season, and finished this 2006 – 2007 regular season with a 28 – 2 record.
Harcum opened up an 11 – 1 lead in today’s game and never once looked back. The Bears led 52 – 27 at the half.
Harcum Coach Drew Kelly was also named Region XIX Coach of the year.
