Overview
Harcum College offers a two-year Nursing Program with three tracks: DAY Nursing, EVENING Nursing and STARS Nursing (Special Track Accel-Rated Students).
Day Nursing
The day program is traditional two-year nursing track. Students begin the course of studies in September and complete four full semesters. Note: All general education co-requisite course requirements of the Nursing Program become prerequisites and must be completed prior to application.
Day Nursing Track

Evening Nursing Track
Evening Nursing is an 18-month part-time program beginning each year in May.

STARS Nursing (Special Track Accel-Rated Students)
STARS Nursing is an accelerated track for second degree learners who wish to make an alternative career choice to enter the profession of Nursing. Candidates for STARS Nursing must hold a baccalaureate degree with a minimun Grade Point Average of 3.0. Graduates of STARS Nursing complete the program of studies in one academic year.
Class: Tuesday/Thursday evenings 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Clinical: Saturday/Sunday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Note: All general education co-requisite course requirements of the Nursing Program become prerequisites and must be completed prior to application.
STARS NURSING TRACK

Total Credits for an Associate of Science degree in Nursing - 71 credits
The Nursing Program requires 71 credits, consisting of 34 general education credits and 37 Nursing credits. The general education credits include courses from the humanities, physical/biological and social sciences. Upon successful completion of the Nursing Program of studies, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
The didactic component of the program is taught on the Harcum campus. Laboratory experiences take place in the Huntsman Nursing Laboratory. These exercises provide students with "hands-on" clinical applications in preparation for client care. Clinical experiences are part of each of the four Nursing courses. This ensures that students apply knowledge from the classroom and skills from the Nursing lab to caring for patients in a healthcare setting. The College maintains agreements with all of the major health systems, including Main Line Health, Crozer Keystone Health, Riddle Memorial Hospital, Tenet Healthsystem, Hahnemann University Hospital, and the Temple University Childrens Hospital. In addition, many healthcare sites other than hospitals are utilized to provide a variety of experiences, which prepare graduates of Harcum's Nursing Program to assume beginning staff nurse positions.
Nursing Program Application Process
Students applying to the Nursing Program must submit the following to the Admissions Office:
- Harcum College Application
- Official High School Transcript or GED Documentation - An official copy must be sent by the high school to Harcum College
- Official College Transcripts (if applicable) - An official copy must be sent to Harcum College by the accredited college(s) where credits were earned
- SAT or ACT Scores
- TOEFL Scores (for all international students)
- Essay describing applicant's reasons for choosing Nursing
- Two Letters of Recommendation
- Resume
- Disclosure Consent Form
- $25 Application Fee (make check payable to Harcum College)
- Documentation of a minimal cumulative GPA of 2.5 at the time of formal application to the Nursing Program
- Accuplacer Placement Exam scores
- TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skill) - Only applicants who meet the minimum admissions requirements will be contacted to take the exam
The Nursing Program Application Packet contains application and admissions information. To request a packet, please call the Admissions Office at : (610) 526-6050. Acceptance into the Nursing Program is competitive. Completion of requirements does not guarantee admittance into the Nursing Program.
Confirmation/Deposit
Accepted applicants must submit a $100 deposit to confirm intent to enroll in the Nursing Program. Applicants should complete the FAFSA (Free Application Financial Student Aid) if applying for Financial Aid assistance.
Enrollment Upon acceptance into the Nursing Program, students are required to:
- Provide evidence of an optimal level of individual health to complete Core Performance Standards
- Meet all immunization requirements of the Nursing Program
- Provide proof of current certification in Basic Life Support/Course C (American Heart Association) or Basic Life Support for the Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross)
- Provide current, original copies of Criminal Clearance and Child Abuse checks
- Show Evidence of a nine-panel urine drug screen
