Overview
The Harcum College Center for Legal Studies prepares students to enter the professional workplace with the practical knowledge and skills necessary for success.
Every course includes practical assignments and exercises to provide a learning experience relevant to the real world. In addition to traditional classroom courses, students attend professional legal seminars and are encouraged to earn academic credit through Cooperative Work Experience. A required capstone course provides resume writing skills, job search strategies, and professional interview experiences.
The Center offers Associate's Degrees and Certificates. Courses run in day, evening, and accelerated formats, with on-line courses anticipated soon.
Teachers in the Center for Legal Studies are legal and criminal justice professionals with specialized experience in the subject matters they teach.
The Center for Legal Studies also offers seminars and continuing education courses to professionals in the Delaware Valley, thus providing networking and lifelong learning opportunities for students at the Center.
Degrees and Certificates
The Associate's Degree program is designed to provide graduates with a legal education and a strong foundation in the Liberal Arts. Associate's Degree graduates are prepared to enter the professional workforce and/or continue their education at a four-year college or university. Many colleges accept Harcum courses for transfer credit, allowing graduates to transfer to four-year colleges as juniors.
The Certificate program is designed for students who have college degrees. The Certificate is appropriate for individuals considering careers in Criminal Justice or Law-related professions, and for individuals already working in the Criminal Justice or Law-related professions who are seeking advancement. The Certificate also provides preparation for students interested in pursuing a graduate degree in Criminal Justice, Law, Legal Studies, or Law-related professions.
