Now entering his fourth season as the Head Coach at Harcum College, Drew Kelly has established the Bears basketball program as one of the top junior college programs on the east coast. In the program's short three year history, Kelly has led the Bears to a 77-16 overall record, including 56-6 over the past two seasons. The 2006-07 season was a breakout year for the program, as Kelly led Harcum to a 30-3 overall record and #3 national ranking in the final NJCAA poll. The Bears earned the top seed in the NJCAA Region 19 tournament with a 13-1 region record, and then captured their first-ever Region 19 tournament championship with an 88-50 victory over Morris in championship game. Kelly was named the 2006-07 NJCAA Region 19 coach of the year.
In December of 2004, Kelly was named the first-ever Head Coach of men’s basketball at Harcum College and charged with the task of building the program from scratch. Kelly led his all freshmen squad into their first season of intercollegiate competition in 2005-06. The Bears did not disappoint, as they posted a 21-win season during their inaugural campaign and finished in a second place tie in Region 19 of NJCAA.
Kelly’s Harcum College teams have been known for their hard-nosed defense and up-tempo offense. The 2006-07 team was one of the top offensive teams in the country, averaging over 95 points per game. During the program’s three-year history, Kelly has seen seven players earn All-Region 19 honors and coached one Region 19 Player of the Year. Five student-athletes over the past two seasons have signed NCAA Division I letters of intent.
In addition to his duties as men’s basketball coach, Kelly also serves as Harcum’s Director of Athletics.
Prior to his tenure at Harcum, Kelly served as head coach at Bucks (Pa.) County Community College for two seasons. Kelly quickly revived a struggling program by guiding Bucks to 15-7 overall record and advancing to the semifinal round of the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference tournament in his first season, Bucks’ best showing in nearly a decade.
Kelly has also served as an assistant coach for several area college programs. From 2000-2002 Kelly worked under head coach John Castaldo at The College of New Jersey, and from 1997-2000 Kelly served as assistant coach at Haverford College. He also served as a student-assistant at Villanova University from 1993-1997 under former Villanova and UMass coach Steve Lappas.
A 1997 graduate of Villanova University, Kelly received a Master’s degree from The College of New Jersey in 2002. He and his wife Meg have one child and currently reside in Upper Darby, Pa.
