HARCUM DOWNS HAGERSTOWN IN OVERTIME THRILLER
Bryn Mawr, Pa. (November 12, 2008)--Facing a double-digit deficit with 10 minutes remaining in the second half, the Harcum College men's basketball team rallied for a thrilling 97-90 overtime victory over visiting Hagerstown Community College. The victory improves the Bears to 3-1 on the season while Hagerstown suffered its first loss of the year, dropping to 2-1.
Down by seven at the half, Harcum trailed the entire second half until sophomore guard Melvin drained a three pointer with just five seconds left to play. Hagerstown answered, hitting a desparation shot at the buzzer to force overtime.
Harcum took control in the extra frame, opening up a nine point advantage to hang on for the come-from-behind win. Once again, all five Harcum starters scored in double figures, led by freshman Antonio Bumpus with 20 points. Andrew Young had 19 points and 14 rebounds and Micah Covert chipped in 16 points.
The Bears return to action this Saturday when they host Community College of Baltimore County-Essex at Our Mother of Good Counsel in Bryn Mawr. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 pm.
