Harcum Downs Erie in Season Opener
Bel Air, MD (November 10, 2007)--Trailing 58-56 with a 1:30 to play, the sixth-ranked Harcum College Bears (1-0) scored the game's final five points to come away with a 61-58 season opening victory over 18th-ranked Erie Community College (3-1) in the opening round of Harford Tip-Off Classic Saturday evening.
Freshman guard Julius Gray (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area HS) came off the bench to lead a balanced Bears attack with 12 points. Freshman Andrew Young (Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham HS) added nine points and nine rebounds. Harcum came through defensively, holding Erie to 38% field goal shooting and forcing 27 turnovers. The Bears outrebounded Erie, 40-37. Harcum has now won five straight games over nationally ranked opponents since the start of last season.
Harcum will play host Harford Community College in championship game Sunday at 6 pm. Harford handed Harcum one of its three defeats last season, downing the Bears 78-76 on November 18, 2006.
