Harcum to compete at Division I in Track and Field
Harcum College will launch a track and field program beginning in the Spring of 2007, which will compete at the Division I level of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Harcum’s other intercollegiate athletics’ – men’s and women’s basketball, and women’s volleyball, are NJCAA Division II programs.
"We want to continue making the opportunity of playing college sports a reality for students, and placing our track and field team at Division I puts us in a position to offer the best possible competitive environment, as well as offer athletic scholarships to student athletes," says Drew P. Kelly, Harcum’s Athletic Director. Harcum’s other intercollegiate teams participate in Region XIX of the NJCAA, which comprises Southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, and Delaware. There are no Division II track and field teams in that region.
Division I track and field programs that Harcum may compete against include those from schools such as Essex Community College in Maryland, Essex County College in New Jersey, Hagerstown Junior College in Maryland, Mercer County Community College in New Jersey, and New Baltimore City Community College, also in Maryland. Division III programs that may Harcum may compete against as well include those from Bergen Community College, Gloucester County College, Middlesex County College, all in New Jersey; Bronx Community College, Nassau Community College, and SUNY Farmingdale, all in New York; Howard County Community College and Montgomery County Community College, all in Maryland; and Thaddeus Stevens College in Pennsylvania.
