Bears Advance to NJCAA National Tournament
Scranton, Pa. (March 6, 2011)--Led by it's deep group of veteran players, the Harcum College women's basketball team won a pair of games this weekend to capture the NJCAA District N championship and advance to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament for the first time in school history.
 
On Saturday evening, Harcum, the Region 19 champion, took on Region 21 champion Community College of Rhode Island.  The Lady Bears had no problems with CCRI, cruising to a 103-55 victory.  Alisa Roberts led the Lady Bears with 23 points, while Sironda Chambers added 22 points.  Alex Massado also chipped in with 20 points.  Ana Cruz, Brittany Clark and Bianca Parker all had double figures for Harcum.
 
Sunday's district championship game featured the 8th ranked Lady Bears against the Region 15 champion and #17 Monroe College.  Monroe entered the game with a lofty 24-4 record, but two of those four losses had come at the hands of the Lady Bears.  An intense game saw a back-and-forth first half featuring two lead changes and two ties, before Harcum pulled ahead 42-39 at the half.  In the second half, the Lady Bears would not crack.  They never relinquished their halftime lead and pushed ahead by as many as 18 points.  Harcum outscored Monroe 46-33 in the second half and won 88-72 to claim the district title.  Ana Cruz led the way for Harcum with 19 points.  The Lady Bears got another stellar performance from Alisa Roberts, who scored 17 points, and career night off the bench from Tanish Brown, who also had 17 points.  Sironda Chambers also added 14 points for the Bears.
 
Harcum, now 28-1 on the season, will be one of 16 junior colleges from around the nation to advance to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament hosted by Illinois Central College in Peoria, Illinois.  This will be the Lady Bears first-ever trip to the national tournament.  Seeding and pairings for the tournament will be announced this week.
 
HARCUM WINS 2ND STRAIGHT REGION 19 TITLE
Scranton, Pa. (February 27, 2011)--Sironda Chambers scored 21 points and Ana Cruz added 15 points to lead Harcum College to a 78-69 victory over Lackawanna College in the Region 19 championship game Saturday.  The Lady Bears captured their 2nd consecutive NJCAA Region 19 title and the third region title in school history.  Harcum is now 27-1 on the season and will be the top seed and host of next weekend's NJCAA District N-O tournament.
 
The Lady Bears avenged their only loss of the season, a 79-78 defeat at Lackawanna back on February 8th, behind their sophomore duo of Chambers and Cruz.  Both players recently surpassed 1,000 career points, becoming the first Lady Bears to accomplish that feat.  Now they hope to lead Harcum to its first NJCAA Division II national tournament appearance in East Peoria, Illinois.
 
LADY BEARS EARN TOP SEED IN REGION 19 TOURNAMENT
Bryn Mawr, Pa. (February 21, 2011)--After completing a 25-1 regular season, the Harcum College Lady Bears have earned the #1 seed in this week's NJCAA Region 19 women's basketball tournament, and looks for its 2nd consecutive Region 19 tournament title.  The tournament will be played at Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa.  The Lady Bears have earned a bye into the semifinals, and will play the winner of Tuesday's Burlington/Mercer game at 5 pm on Thursday.  A win on Thursday would advance the Lady Bears to Saturday's Region 19 championship game and clinch a spot in the NJCAA District N-O tournament. 
 
On January 29, 2011 Harcum played its fourth game in nine days, traveling to Essex.  The Lady Bears showed no signs of fatigue and defeated Essex 83-58, bringing their record to 19-0 overall and  11-0 in Region 19.  Harcum was led by another balanced team effort.  Ana Cruz had 22 points and 6 assists,  Sironda Chambers had 16 points, Alisa Roberts had10 points.  Brittany Clark who was out last season with a torn ACL has made a huge difference in the  second half of the season.  She made her presence known with 14 points and 8 rebounds.  Defensively Crystal Brown dominated the paint with 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. 

On January 25, 2011 Harcum met Union College for the second time this season.  Three weeks prior the Lady Bears struggled to an 18 point victory. The second game was a different story.  Harcum dominated from start to finish, winning 91-46.  Harcum was led by Sironda Chambers, Ana Cruz, Alisa Roberts and Alex Massado.  Sironda flirted with a "quadruple-double", finishing with 11 points, 14 rebounds, 9 assists, and 8 steals.  Ana scorched the nets with 28 points (including 6 3-pointers), Alisa scored 13 points and Alex finished with 12 points.
 
On January 22, 2011 Harcum traveled to Brooklyn, NY to take on Division I ASA College.  The Lady Bears used a balanced team effort to win an exciting contest 75-73.  Leading the way was Brittany Clark 16 points, Sironda Chambers 15 points and 14 rebounds, Ana Cruz 15 points,  and Alex Massado 10 points. 

On January 20, 2011 Harcum played host to Region 19 rival Manor.  The Lady Bears won a hard fought victory 74-68.  Top performers were Ana Cruz with 33 points, Sironda Chambers 16 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and Alex Massado with 12 points.  
 
Harcum Women are Ranked 11th in the Nation in NJCAA II
 
Saturday, January 15th,  Harcum women beat a very talented NJCAA Div I team 89-76.  Sironda Chambers lead all scores with 32 points, while 17 of those points were from the free throw line.  Chambers did more than score; she pulled down 9 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.  Ana Cruz had 16 points and Freshman Bianca Parker contributed with 10 points and 11 rebounds.  Harcum has a conference game against Manor on Thursday, January 20th at home.
 

Harcum Tops Lackawanna to Remain Undefeated
January 7, 2011 Ana Cruz scored 29 points and Alissa Bayer added 13 as Harcum College downed Lackawanna College, 82-62, in a showdown of unbeaten NJCAA Region 19 women's basketball teams Thursday at Cabrini College in Radnor.
Harcum (14-0 overall, 11-0 Region 19) led by eight at halftime, but blew the game open with a strong second half. The Bears shot 53 percent from the field, including 8 of 10 on 3-pointers.
 
Harcum Women Win a Hard Fought Battle over Manor College

Harcum Women continue their undefeated season to 10-0 with an 82-65 win over Manor College on Tuesday night 12/14.  The offense was balanced with five players in double figures and 4 finishing with a double-double.  Sophomore Ana Cruz lead all scorers with 27 points 5 steals.  Sironda Chambers scored 17 points pulled down 10 boards and dished out 5 assists.  Alisa Roberts had 16 points and 13 rebounds and was a huge spark off the bench.  Alex “MomMom” Massado finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds and Freshman Bianca Parker had 10 points and 10 rebounds.  

Raritan Valley Community College has forfeited their game against the Lady Bears on Saturday 12/15.

The last game for the Harcum Women in the year 2010, will be against Essex Community College Tuesday 12/21.

December 2010 Highlights

Harcum Women start off strong in the month of December with a victory over County College of Morris.  The Lady Bears won 85-42. Sensational Sophomore Alisa Roberts led all scorers with 37 points.  Alisa is Harcum’s defensive specialist, she is talented enough to start for the Lady Bears but instead she gives them the spark they need being the first one off the bench.

The Lady Bears defeated Delaware Technical & Community College 90-62.   Four of the five starters finished the contest in double figures.  Sironda Chambers led all scorers with 26 points including shooting a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line.  Alex Massado scored 19 points and dominated the boards with 20 rebounds.  Freshman Bianca Parker also had a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

December 8, 2010 Harcum Women are ranked 12th in the Nation, they moved up 7 spots from last week’s poll.  On the same day they traveled to Cecil Community College to rack up their 9th consecutive victory of the season.  The squad struggled a little in the beginning of the game, making them only up 10 points at half time.  After the intermission they came out determined, and blew the lead wide open to a 81-52 victory. Ana Cruz led the team with 16 points and Sironda Chambers finishing with 15 points.

The Women have 3 Conference games remaining before the Christmas break.  Their opponents are Manor College 12/14, Raritan Valley Community College 12/18, and Essex County College 12/21.  The best present of all would be to celebrate the vacation with their families with a record of 12-0.  Up to this point in the season Harcum is averaging 92 points per game whereas their opponent is just averaging 50 points per game.   There are 5 players averaging double figures.  Ana Cruz 22 points, Sironda Chambers 21 points,  Alex Massado and Alisa Roberts each averaging 13 points, and Bianca Parker 11 points.

The Harcum (Pa.) College women's basketball team has several Delaware connections.

Last season, Sheila DiNardo coached Harcum to a 29-2 record, the Region 19 title, a No. 8 ranking in the NJCAA Division II poll and a berth in the national tournament. DiNardo, a graduate of Mount Pleasant High and Wilmington University, was chosen the Region 19 Coach of the Year.

Five of the 10 women on her roster (all sophomores) are former Delaware scholastic players. Four, including leading scorer Sironda Chambers, are Hodgson Vo-Tech graduates.

Chambers averaged a team-high 19.4 points as Harcum jumped out to a 5-0 start this season.

Harcum's biggest win in the early going came against nationally ranked Monroe College of Bronx, N.Y.

The three other Hodgson players are 5-foot-7 Lakeshia Chambers, 5-9 forward Bianca Parker and 6-foot center Chanae Council. Parker was averaging 11.5 points a game. Alex Massado, a 5-10 graduate of St. Elizabeth, was averaging 13 points.

DiNardo has also added her daughter, Deana DiAmico, to the coaching staff. DiAmico, a standout point guard on the 2006 state championship Ursuline team coached by her mother, graduated from Cabrini College last February.

Lady Bears 2010-11 Season

The Lady Bears enter the 2010-11 season with great expectations.  The team returns 3 starters from last years 29-2 Regional Championship.  Top newcomers include transfer sophomore Alex Massado and freshman Bianca Parker. 

The Lady Bears opened the season with a 100-25 victory over Baltimore City Community College.  The entire team contributed offensively, with five finishing in double figures.  Transfer sophomore Alex "MomMom" Massado leading scorer with 24 points.  Lady Bears' 2009-1010 freshman phenom, Ana Cruz finished in a close second with 23 points.

 

The Lady Bears hosted Salem Community College on November 15, 2010 where they came up with a 97-16 victory. Leading scorer with 22 points was sophomore, Sironda Chambers.  Sironda also dominated the defensive end with 7 steals.  Freshman Forward, Bianca Parker came off the bench earning 16 points and 12 rebounds.  Alex "MomMom" Massado had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

 

Harcum Women traveled to the bronx to take on Nationally ranked, Monroe College.  Both teams put up a fight, but the Lady Bears came out on top with a 75-67 win, to continue their undefeated season, making them 4-0.  Ana Cruz was unconsious on the offensive end, leading scorer with 30 points.   Sironda Chambers had a double-double scoring 14 points and dominating the boards on both ends of the floor with 10 rebounds.  Sophomore Lakeshia Chambers and Freshman Bianca Parker both had 9 rebounds.  The Lady Bears play their first Conference game against Mercer County Community College on November 20, 2010.

ANA CRUZ NAMED 2ND TEAM ALL-AMERICAN  

Bryn Mawr, Pa. (April 5, 2010)--Harcum College freshman guard Ana Cruz has been named a 2nd team All-American by the NJCAA for the 2009-10 season.  Cruz helped lead the Bears to a school record 29 wins and the Region 19 regular season and tournament championship.   Cruz averaged 18.0 points per game and connected on 72 three point field goals.   

HARCUM WINS REGION 19 TITLE 

LADY BEARS DOWN BURLINGTON  84-78

Scranton, Pa. (March 1, 2010)--Sironda Chambers scored 24 points and Carmen Cruz added 21 points on 7 three pointers as Harcum College defeated Burlington County College, 84-78, to capture the NJCAA Region 19 tournament championship.  Harcum now advances to District I championship on Saturday, March 6th, in Martinsville, Virginia, against the Region 10 champion Patrick Henry Community College.   The Lady Bears improved to 29-1 on the season, setting a new school record for victories in a season and caputring the school's 2nd Region 19 tournament title, its first since 2006.  Harcum has now won 19 consecutive games.  Chambers was named the Region 19 tournament MVP after scoring 57 points in two games.  Head Coach Sheila DiNardo was named the Region 19 Division II coach of the year.   The 10th-ranked Lady Bears will play undefeated and 8th-ranked Patrick Henry for the right to be one of 12 teams from across the nation to advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in Peoria, Illinois.  

HARCUM ROUTS LACKAWANNA, ADVANCES TO TITLE GAME  

Scranton, Pa. (March 1, 2010)--Sironda Chambers and Ana Cruz combined to score 59 points and lead #10 Harcum College to a 91-62 victory over Lackawanna College in the NJCAA Region 19 tournament semifinals Saturday.  Harcum, the top seed in the tournament, advances to tonight's championship game against Burlington County College.   Chambers scored 33 points on 12-of-17 field goals, including 4-of-5 three pointers in the semifinal against Lackawanna.  Cruz added 26 points and Alisa Roberts scored 10.  The Lady Bears led 44-33 at the half, and would not allow Lackawanna any closer during the second half.   The winner of tonight's Region 19 championship game will advance to the District I championship game against Patrick Henry Community College (VA) on Saturday, March 6th.
