2007-08 Season Preview
The 2007-08 Lady Bears return 8 players from last seasons 25-3 team. With that said, they have earned the #13 ranking in the NJCAA Division II National Pre-season poll. Leading the way for Harcum is soph., guard/forward, Angela Brown (Orange HS/Orange, NJ), who led the team in scoring and rebounding and was selected to the All-Region XIX First Team in 2006-07. Soph., point / shooting guard, Ashley Giddens (Reading HS/Reading, PA), looks to improve upon her success on the hardwood as a Second Team All-Region XIX selection. Coach Taylor has high expectations of this returning veteran group; shooting/wing guard, Crystal Gale (Academy Park HS/Sharon Hill, PA); point/shooting guard, Nadiera Sellers (Eastside HS/Paterson, NJ) along with forwards, Davina Yacab (Eastside HS/Paterson, NJ) and Samantha Kremenowski (North Penn HS/Lansdale, PA). Two other sophomores should be available later in the semester are wing guard / forward, Gena Reddy (Del-Castle Tech HS/New Castle, DE) and point/shooting guard, Tiffany Lynch (Springfield-Delco HS/Morton, PA). Both players are rehabbing from ACL surgery this past spring; they are expected to play in November. Knowing the winning tradition of the program four first year players who have already made their presence felt as they look contribute as early a possible. Point/shooting guard, Shagala Williams, (Truman HS/Philadelphia, PA); will challenge Giddens for the starting point guard spot. Williams is quick and has the ability to get into the paint. Point guard, Tanisha Jackmon, (Henderson HS/Aston, PA); adds more quickness to our backcourt and will look increase her role as she gains experience. Combo guard, Kerin Roche, (Pascak Valley HS/Hillsdale, PA), is a versatile player, her athleticism and drive is what makes her a special player. Walk-on post, Mercedes Hicks, (Atlantic City HS/Absecon, NJ), will add more depth to an already strong front court. As for their schedule, gone are the Region XIX Division III games, where Harcum won by an average of 20+ points over the course of three seasons. Having 14 non-region games at their disposal, the Lady Bears significantly upgrade their schedule to that worthy of a team ranked 13th nationally. The Lady Bears play four games against non-NJCAA programs. On Nov. 27, Harcum visit Manor College; Nov. 29, they head to Fort Monmouth to play U.S. Military Academy Prep; Dec. 11 and Feb. 7 they have a home and away games against CC of Philadelphia. Harcum is scheduled to play in three tournaments this season. Nov. 10th & 11th the Lady Bears head to Erie, PA in Northwestern Pennsylvania to play 20th ranked Mercyhurst North East and 23rd ranked Genesee CC. The following week, they will head to Lackawanna College in Northeastern Pennsylvania to face 14th ranked CC Rhode Island and Alleghany College of Maryland the weekend of Nov. 17th and 18th. Dec. 1st and 2nd, the Lady Bears trek off to West Windsor, NJ to take on Orange CC, Middletown, NY and play their second game against CC of Rhode Island. Harcum will face two NJCAA Division I programs this season, Monroe CC (Rochester, NY) and Globe Institute of Technology (New York, NY). Monroe a former Division II Champion, will visit Harcum on December 8th, at Gwynedd Mercy College. The Lady Bears travel to New York City’s Pace University to take on Globe on Jan. 19th. The lone Division III school on the schedule this season, is Gloucester CC, whom Harcum visits on Jan. 31. To round out their non-regional schedule, Harcum will end the first semester with their third game against CC Rhode Island in Warwick, RI on Dec. 19th. As for Region XIX competition, the Lady Bears will see formidable challenges from Essex CC, Union CC, and Lackawanna. Mercer CC and Burlington CC are looking to play the role of spoilers while CC of Morris looks to improve upon last season. Salem CC and Del-Tech try to re-establish themselves after canceling the second half of last season.
