Today's Pharmacists rely upon the assistance of trained support staff called Pharmacy Technicians to help them perform their duties. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician performs essential tasks such as filling prescriptions, packaging doses, performing inventory control, keeping records and communicating effectively with other health care professionals.
As the profession experiences a national shortage of pharmacists, the role of the Pharmacy Technician is ever expanding.
Students in Harcum's Pharmacy Technician program will learn to assist a pharmacist in the following settings at entry-level:
- hospital pharmacies
- home infusion pharmacies
- mail-order pharmacies
- institutional care pharmacies
- retail pharmacies
Job search methods and resume development are covered in the course, as are strategies to prepare for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification exam. Classes are taught by registered pharmacists with years of experience in the training of Pharmacy Technicians. As Harcum College faculty members, instructors emphasize a positive learning environment with plenty of individual attention.
