Tara Focht Tara Focht ’14
Interior Design

Tara received the prestigious President’s Award at Commencement 2014, which recognizes the Harcum student who has done the most to promote the ideals of the College. That spring she also won second place in the Annual ASID (American Society of Interior Design) Pennsylvania East Chapter Student Portfolio Competition in 2014, in competition with students from four-year institutions. Before graduation, Tara was offered a position maintaining the floor plans for the Facilities Department at USLI (United States Liability Insurance Group), an A++ rated company insurance company in Wayne, Pennsylvania, and a member of the Berkshire Hathaway family of companies.

“Since being at USLI, I have assisted in the space planning, finish selection, and construction project management of several projects as part of the company's expansion both at the home office, and other offices throughout the country,” Tara said. “I love the technical side of interior design, so outside of my regular job, I have also tutored Harcum Interior Design students in the computer drafting program AutoCAD.”

Kaitlyn Cleary '12Kaitlyn Cleary ’12
Fashion Design

Kaitlyn Cleary ’12 has some wisdom to pass along to prospective Fashion Design students at Harcum College: “Work hard. Be driven. Have a positive attitude, maturity, math skills, and be a quick learner. You will get what you want in the fashion industry.”

Which is exactly what Katie did. During an internship at Options in Time, she not only learned all positions of the business but sought to learn as much as she could about watches, not just designing them but how to repair them. “Harcum gave me the knowledge to apply to the internship.”

In 2013, she accepted a position as Manager of Product Development at Options in Time, who does business with many brands which can be seen on QVC and HSN. “It’s exciting to watch an item I helped create appear on TV and then fly out the door.”

Katie travels regularly for her career, including trips to New York, New Jersey, and Florida, every other month. She works with Disney to create watches and developed pieces for the Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, and Pirates of the Caribbean collections.

“I very much enjoyed my professors. At Harcum you receive a lot of one-on-one time with professors and have a close knit group of students in your program.”

Nisa BrownNisa Brown ’16
Business Management

Nisa Brown '16 graduated May 2016 with an associate's degree in Business Management. As a young mother of two children, going back to school was daunting. A first-generation college student, Brown also needed to work full-time while studying, which made completing a degree even more challenging. The obstacles did not deter her and she was even supported by her community.

Brown was a recipient of the McDonald's Archways to Opportunity scholarship to further her education at Harcum College and is a Restaurant Manager at McDonald's on Lehigh Avenue in Philadelphia, PA.
