Harcum College President Jon Jay DeTemple is pleased to announce that beginning in Fall 2018, Antonelli Institute’s Program Directors Ed Zawora and Drew Simcox will be joining Harcum where they will oversee two new degree programs. Antonelli Institute’s legacy of providing outstanding arts education will continue on in the new Digital Design and Photography Programs at Harcum College. “Now, individuals who are artistic, passionate, motivated, intelligent, hard-working, imaginative, and incredibly creative can realize their career goals in photography or digital design at Harcum,” DeTemple said. Harcum and Antonelli both have a rich history in the arts. Harcum College was founded in 1915 by talented concert pianist, Edith Hatcher Harcum and her husband, Octavius Marvin Harcum. Antonelli Institute was founded by internationally renowned commercial photographer and visual artist Severo Antonelli. For the last 80 years Antonelli Institute has offered programs in Graphic Design and Photography at their campus in Erdenheim, PA. Antonelli is scheduled to close in May of 2018. “We are excited to bring Digital Design and Photography to Harcum College, and to have those programs run by recognized and respected faculty who have a long record of success,” said Dr. DeTemple. Ed Zawora, who will lead the Digital Design program, brings 20 years of design experience and 13 years of teaching experience to Harcum. In 2013 Zawora was chosen as Instructor of the Year by the Pennsylvania Association of Private School Administrators (PAPSA) and received the Excellence in Education Award from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. Drew Simcox, who will lead the Photography program, has over 25 years of photography experience as a Photojournalist, Aerial Photographer, Photo Editor, Director of Photography, and freelancer. He has taught for over 25 years. Simcox has been recognized by PAPSA as Outstanding Instructor of the Year. Simcox has served as Faculty Advisor for Antonelli’s National Press Photographers Association Chapter. He is a highly valued, active contributor at the Adobe Educators Summit, is active in numerous professional photography organizations, and has excellent connections throughout the industry. The Digital Design and Photography programs will complement Harcum’s existing Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Interior Design, and Social Media Marketing programs. The program provides the foundation of a quality collaborative education with experienced instructors providing hands-on learning and live constructive critique.
