HARCUM SINKS SKIPJACKS, 112-92

Wye Mills, Md. (November 17, 2009)--Sophomore Antonio Bumpus connected on 10-of-17 fields goals en route to 27 points and the 14th-ranked Harcum College Bears defeated Chesapeake College, 112-92, in NJCAA men's basketball action Tuesday night.  The victory improves the Bears to 5-0 on the season.

Harcum opened up early 12-2 lead behind Bumpus, who scored 8 points during the opening run.  But a scrappy Chesapeake squad fought back to retake the lead midway through the first half, going up by as many as four points.  Harcum managed to regain control of the game by forcing 37 Chesapeake turnovers and eventually pulled away for the win.

Bumpus led five Harcum players in double figures.  Andre Paulk scored 22 points, Ed Reed knocked in a career high 16 points, Percy Woods added 12 points and Jeremiah Bowman chipped in with 10.  Woods also added a team high 7 assists.

Harcum will return home on Saturday afternoon for a Region 19 contest with Mercer County Community College.  Tip-off is schedule for 2 pm at Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Bryn Mawr.

BEARS ROAR PAST CECIL, IMPROVE TO 4-0

Bryn Mawr, Pa. (November 11, 2009)--Freshman guard Percy Woods scored 21 points, including five 3-pointers, and 18th-ranked Harcum College rolled to a 113-82 victory over Cecil College, ending Cecil's 67-game regular season winning streak.  The win improves the Bears to 4-0 on the season.

The highly anticipated early season match up between two of the top junior college programs in the northeast never materialized, as the Bears scored a layup on the game's opening possession and never relinquished the lead.  Harcum opened up leads of 17-9 and 41-25 in the first half, before a late Cecil run cut the halftime deficit to 11 at 46-35.

The teams traded baskets for the first four minutes of the second half, with Cecil getting within 9 points.  Then Woods went to work, scoring 13 points in a four minute span, including 3 three's, to fuel a huge Harcum run and put the game out reach.  The Bears outscored Cecil 67-47 in the second half.

Woods led six Harcum players in double figures.  Andre Paulk knocked in 18 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, Antonio Bumpus added 17, and Jeremiah Bowman had 16 points, 6 boards, and 7 assists.  Freshmen Ed Reed and Stuart Clarke had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Cecil's last regular season loss came in December of 2006, a 95-82 loss also to Harcum.

Harcum returns to action on Tuesday, November 17th, when the Bears travel to Wye Mills, Maryland for women's/men's double header against Chesapeake College.  The women's game tips off at 5 pm, followed by the men at 7 pm.
