MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN Degree: A.S. As a graduate of Harcum’s Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) degree program, you will play a critical role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. MLT’s work in all areas of the lab including blood bank, chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology. An MLT uses analytical skills to operate sophisticated laboratory equipment and computer technology. WHY STUDY THIS PROGRAM? As a Medical Laboratory Technician major, your curriculum will be blended and online, to suit the needs of working students or others who have obligations preventing them from participating in a traditional classroom schedule. All of your required MLT lecture courses are available online, as well as a majority of the required general education courses. Your MLT student labs are held on six Saturdays throughout the semester from 9am-3pm. You will also attend a clinical practicum in a CLIA approved hospital laboratory where they gain experience in every aspect of laboratory testing. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN The MLT program will teach you all the technical and professional skills you need to enter the field such as collecting, processing, and analyzing biological specimens and other substances; performing analytical tests on blood, body fluids, and other substances; recognizing factors that affect procedures and results, and taking appropriate actions, within predetermined limits, when corrections are indicated; performing and monitoring quality assurance and quality control within predetermined limit; and applying principles of safety, among numerous others. You will also attend a clinical practicum in a CLIA approved hospital laboratory where they gain experience in every aspect of laboratory testing.

COST & SCHOLARSHIPS Students accepted into the MLT program for Spring or Fall 2024, are eligible to receive the MLT Grant. This grant provides an automatic 25% off full-time or part-time tuition for the Academic Year.
