HISTOTECHNICIAN Degree: A.S. The Histotechnician Degree Program will teach you how to prepare body tissues for microscopic examination by a pathologist with speed and accuracy to help detect disease and to determine whether a disease has progressed or if the treatment plan is working. WHY STUDY THIS PROGRAM? As a Histotechnology (HT) major, your curriculum will be blended and online, a format that is ideal for working students or those who have other obligations that prevent them from participating in a traditional classroom schedule. The future long-term employment looks bright, with more demand that there are qualified Histotechnicians to fill jobs available on a national level. Plus, Harcum HT graduates qualify to take the Board of Certification exam sponsored by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). WHAT YOU WILL LEARN This program will teach you all the technical, professional skills, and Histotechnology training you need to enter the field. You will learn how to receive and assess tissue specimens and how to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examinations, including all routine procedures. You will learn how to assist with gross examination and frozen section procedures in histopathology. You will master the Identification of tissue structures and their staining characteristics. You will also learn how to perform and monitor quality control, apply principles of safety, and demonstrate the interpersonal communication skills you will need to work with patients, laboratory personnel, other health care professionals, and with the public.

COST & SCHOLARSHIPS Students accepted into the Histo program for Spring or Fall 2024, are eligible to receive the Histo Grant. This grant provides an automatic 25% off full-time or part-time tuition for the Academic Year.
